Four Class 47s were on view in and around Norwich station on the morning of February 12, with all four in traffic.
West Coast Railway 47746 led the 1007 empty coaching stock move to Southall, with preserved 47580 County of Essex on the rear. (It left five minutes early.)
The ‘47/7’ was hauling a rake of WCR coaches that had been used on a steam tour the previous day, when 61306 Mayflower hauled a Norwich-Windsor & Eton Riverside charter (with 47580 hauling the return). WCR operated the train, and added 47746 to the rear of the return leg when it visited Southall.
Meanwhile, at Norwich station, Direct Rail Services 47813 Solent hauled the 1036 to Great Yarmouth, with DRS 47818 on the rear. The DRS ‘47s’ are hired to Abellio Greater Anglia, and had worked the 0747 Lowestoft-Norwich (47818 in charge), 0836 Norwich-Great Yarmouth (47813 in charge) and 0917 return (47818 in charge), and went on to work the 1117 Great Yarmouth-Norwich (47818 in charge), 1236 Norwich-Great Yarmouth (47813 in charge) and 1317 return (47818 in charge).
For good measure, DRS 47810 Peter Bath MBE 1927-2006 was stabled at nearby Norwich Crown Point depot.
