More than 4,000 people from London are now working on Crossrail, and the project has exceeded its target of creating 400 apprenticeships.
The figures are contained in Crossrail’s sustainability report, which examines the line’s social, economic and environmental impact from the start of construction in 2009.
The report also found that 95% of contracts awarded by Crossrail were to UK companies, with 61% of suppliers based outside the capital, and that 98% of excavated material has been re-used with the “vast majority” transported by rail and boat.

Hopefully the Crossrail project should be completed by 2018 and a full service along with new trains to be operational from 2019.
