Porterbrook has confirmed that two HST Power Cars that have recently been on hire to work the Network Rail New Measurement Trains are due to be scrapped once all reusable components have been removed.
Ex-LNER 43290/299 were provided as cover while NR’s 43013/014/062 were overhauled and upgraded with European Train Control System (ETCS) in-cab signalling technology. Now they are back in traffic, 43290/299 are no longer needed.
A Porterbrook spokesman told RAIL: “It is correct that once component recovery is competed for the HST power cars 43290/299 that they will be going for scrap. At this stage, they are no longer in a serviceable condition.”
