A new bronze sculpture celebrating Bridlington’s ‘Barrow Boys’ has been unveiled at the town’s railway station. The statue commemorates the young lads who transported luggage for holidaymakers during the town’s heyday.

Around 30 former Barrow Boys attended the ceremony on 25 July to see the 5ft tall artwork, created by Stephen Carvill. The project was a collaboration between Northern, Network Rail, and the Yorkshire Coast Community Rail Partnership, with funding from various organisations.

The statue is the latest addition to the station, which recently underwent a £5 million accessibility upgrade.
