More trains will be running between Crewe and the East Midlands following next month’s timetable change.

East Midlands Railway (EMR) is adding eight services and extending two others in changes that will come into effect from Monday December 15.

The changes are:

Weekdays

  • Extension of 0810 Crewe–Nottingham to Newark Castle
  • 1310 Crewe – Newark Castle
  • 1036 Newark Castle – Crewe
  • Extension of 1616 Nottingham – Crewe to Newark Castle

Saturdays

  • 0809 Crewe – Newark Castle
  • 1310 Crewe – Newark Castle
  • 1810 Crewe – Nottingham
  • 0644 Derby – Crewe
  • 1039 Newark Castle – Crewe
  • 1538 Newark Castle – Crewe

The operator’s Managing Director, Will Rogers, said he was “delighted” at the additional services.

“We’re always looking for better ways to match our timetable with the trips our customers want to make,” he said.

"But any changes need to take into account a number of factors, including the allocation of necessary funding, maintaining levels of performance (punctuality), and operational feasibility.

"Thankfully, these requirements have been met.”

It has also announced further changes to its Sunday timetable. The changes, will see 12 Sunday services benefit from quicker journeys, with some Midland Main Line services reduced by up to 28 minutes.

To accommodate the improvements, two early Sunday morning services will be removed. The 0700 Derby to London St Pancras and the 0724 Nottingham to St Pancras will be cancelled as a result of the changes. EMR has said that these cancellations will allow more time for Network Rail to carry out track maintenance on the mainline.
