RAIB launches own investigation into Southern unit hitting London Bridge buffers

Southern's 377426 after hitting buffers at London Bridge. NETWORK RAIL.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has launched its own investigation after a Southern Class 377 hit the buffers at London Bridge station.

The EMU hit the buffers at around 2.3mph at around 1545 on December 13, 2024, as it arrived at platform 12 on the 1450 from London Victoria.

Nobody was injured in the incident, though both unit and buffers sustained minor damage.

RAIB will look at the actions of the driver, their management, arrangements to manage and control buffer stop collisions and underlying management factors.

The investigation is independent of the one being carried out by British Transport Police.
