Network Rail is putting on a series of events in Oxford, to inform residents about the long-running improvement project by the city’s station.
Botley Road, one of the main arteries into Oxford, has been closed since April 2023.
It was originally due to be shut in two periods of six months, while Oxford station is upgraded for the arrival of East West Rail (including construction of a new entrance).
However, Network Rail confirmed in January that the road would not reopen until August 2026 (RAIL 1028).
The ongoing saga has angered residents and business owners. who say the work has put off people visiting that area of the city.
In January, Rail Minister Lord Hendy and NR Chief Executive Sir Andrew Haines visited Oxford to apologise and to outline the revised plan.
Network Rail’s Western Route Managing Director Marcus Jones said: “As we work towards opening the first of two new wider walkways in August 2025 and reopening of the road in August 2026, we want to keep everyone up to date and answer any questions people may have.”
Four sessions are being held. The first was on February 26, with three more taking place on March 26, April 23 and May 21. All are at the Cherwell Room at the King’s Centre, Osney Mead, OX2 0ES.
