Direct Rail Services stored 47828 on December 7, leaving only one Class 47 in the serviceable fleet. It is thought that all will be withdrawn by the end of the year.
The latest casualty was dragged to Crewe Gresty Bridge on December 4, having failed while on Railhead Treatment Train duties from Stowmarket in November. It follows 47805/818, which were stored in November, and joins 47810/813/841/853, which were already stored.
The last serviceable Class 47 in the DRS fleet is 47790 Galloway Princess. It moved to Norwich on November 23, but has worked only a handful of empty coaching stock moves, and has rarely been used otherwise.
