Porterbrook Leasing has broken down the Great Western Railway Class 387 Electrostar order announced this week.
GWR is buying an additional 92 vehicles (23 four-car trains).
They will be built by Bombardier at Derby Litchurch Lane, and delivery starts in April 2017, with full delivery by October 2017.
Porterbrook’s previous order in October 2015 of 80 vehicles (20 four-car trains) will be split, as previously announced, with 24 vehicles (six four-car trains) being delivered to the Essex Thameside franchise for c2c and the remaining 56 vehicles (14 four-car trains) going to GWR.
GWR will now therefore benefit from a brand new fleet of 180 vehicles (inclusive of the 32 vehicles already in build).

At least c2c are hiring 6 Class 387/3's for 3 years on Fenchurch St-Shoeburyness/Southend Central & Fenchurch St-Grays semi-fast services until mid/late 2019 unless 20-22 brand new trains are planned to be built for c2c in the next few years with 17 Class 357's used on the Fenchurch St-Grays via Rainham suburban services and the rest of the Class 357's are used for regional stopping services between Fenchurch St-Shoeburyness/Southend Central via Basildon &/or South Ockendon and Fenchurch St-Leigh-on-Sea/Pitsea via Basildon &/or South Ockendon and Fenchurch St-Stanford-le-Hope via South Ockendon/Grays.

The GWR ones are because of a late cascade from Govia ( see latest mag) which would mean GWR wouldn't have enough units to cover duties once electrification is complete.
