Stored Class 442s could yet have a future, with their owner Angel Trains telling RAIL it is planning a refurbishment programme.
The trains were leased by Govia Thameslink Railway for its Gatwick Express operations, before being replaced by 27 four-car Class 387/2s. All but six were sent off-lease - GTR retained these (442402/406/408/410/413/419) to operate London Bridge-Eastbourne trains.

Good news to hear. So that means GTR Southern Trains have retained and refurbished the 6 Class 442's to be operated on London Bridge-Eastbourne route whilst 18 out of the 24 Class 442's are stored at Eastleigh and at Ely. The 6 Class 442 trains could be repainted in Southern livery.

The six class 442 units to my knowledge are staying as they are. They are only used for peak hour workings. My understanding of the above article "Stored Class 442s" is that the units stored off lease will be getting the refurb.

Hopefully they could be used as Mk3 carriages without the traction motors, DC shoebox and a full refurbishment inside and outside. Plus they could be used on Northern long distance rural routes or to be used in Wales.

Ye. It would be good to see Class 442s in Southern livery. They only have Class 377s and Class 313s in their livery, so it would be nice to put them on the 442s.

Could you please get rid of those horrid iron board seats and reinstall the old NSE seats and rearrange the first class area back to the driving carriage. Would be a pleasure to do so.

Southern should send some down on the London Victoria and Brighton to Portsmouth and Southampton central route!! It would be better than the 313s on that route at the moment!!

That could be impossible because the Southern already operates services on the West Coastway routes with Class 313's and Class 377's including between Brighton-Portsmouth & Southsea, Portsmouth Harbour, Southampton Central, Fareham, Chichester, Littlehampton, Ford, Bognor Regis and Seaford.

I should hope so! DfT can't plan for the future, constantly ordering the minimum number of trains, with no plan should many more trains be needed.

Pardon about my foul language but I think that Boris needs to stop being abusive to me. Clearly he is a troll. And I accept a apology for using the bad word but he thinks I don't know nothing about trains and he's a absolute troll.

Moderator. If this troll "Boris" swears again and threatens me. Is there a way to ban him or give him a warning. I do apologize for swearing.

What you've just said is that you're expecting an apology for your own bad manners...

Do they really need to be loco hauled stocks? just cascade them over to the southeastern network line as we are running very few stocks at this moment.
