Southeastern to fit toilets to Class 707 units

Southeastern Class 707 at London Bridge. SOUTHEASTERN.

Southeastern’s Class 707 ‘City Beam’ four-car electric multiple units are to be fitted with toilets, following the Angel Trains fleet’s transfer from South Western Railway.

Ordered by SWR as a metro- style train, the Siemens Desiro City units were not specified with toilets owing to the short- distance commuter work for which they were intended.

Southeastern said the final contractual agreements are expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks, at which point detailed final designs can get under way.

Once complete, accessible toilets will be fitted on all 30 of the Class 707s, which operate in south-east London and parts of Kent.

The toilets are expected to be the larger accessible toilets, featuring a wide electric sliding door entrance suitable for wheelchair users and passengers with other accessibility requirements.

They will also be more convenient for those with children, pushchairs or luggage.
