Class 387/1s entered traffic with Govia Thameslink Railway today (December 8).
Two 110mph four-car electric multiple units, 387105 and 387106, have begun their working careers running between Brighton and Bedford.
Built by Bombardier at Derby Litchurch Lane, they are the first of 29 Class 387/1s to enter traffic.
They worked the 0540 Brighton-Bedford and 0824 return. They are rostered to work the 1107 and 1724 Brighton-Bedford, and the 1440 and 2122 Bedford-Brighton. It is expected that they will be on these duties all week.
Currently 387105-387110 have been accepted following commissioning. Additionally 387101-104/111-113 have also been built. Testing on the West Coast Main Line saw 387112/113 in action.
All should be in traffic by May, and they will release Class 319s for cascading to Northern Rail.
