Rail passengers will benefit from free WiFi on trains across England and Wales from 2017.
The Department for Transport will release more than £50 million of funding to ensure WiFi is available on selected services, including Govia Thameslink Railway, Southeastern, Chiltern Railways and Arriva Trains Wales.
The funding is reinvested money that Network Rail has been required to return to the government after the infrastructure company missed punctuality targets set by the Office of Rail Regulation.
When making the announcement, Rail Minister Claire Perry said: “I am determined to improve journeys for rail passengers. Free WiFi is a priority for many as being able to keep up with work, connect with friends or even check the latest journey information online.”

In what way does Thameslink, Southeastern and Chiltern constitute "free WiFi on trains across England." Have you looked at a map recently?
