A British Transport Police sergeant and three constables will work across the c2c network to provide what the train operator calls “a more visible security presence” for passengers.
The team will combine regular patrols on trains and at key stations with operations targeted at crime ‘hotspots’, to help c2c continue to reduce crime on its network. In 2014, overall crimes fell by 3%, with a 15% increase in detections.
“It’s really important that our passengers feel safe,” said c2c Head of Security Iain Palmer.
“That’s why we’ve introduced these officers, and they will be supported by our own roving security teams. From later this year we will also staff every station from before the first train until after the last service has departed, so c2c passengers will always have someone they can approach if they need help.”
