Arriva Trains Wales has asked the Office of Rail and Road for its approval to extend some off-peak North Wales/Chester-Manchester Piccadilly services to Manchester Airport, starting with the May 2016 timetable change.
The services are those that operate from Llandudno broadly every hour from 0745 to 1253, and from 0634 to 1544 on Saturdays (the 1331 service starts from Bangor).
ATW says that while Network Rail originally validated the paths for these services, it subsequently withdrew its support for the track access application. Then, in October 2015, the Access Disputes Committee’s Timetabling Panel directed Network Rail to accommodate the services in the May 2016 timetable, subject to the normal processes of the Network Code.
Network Rail has said that extending these services from Piccadilly will have an impact on train operations through Slade Lane Junction, and will reduce turnround times for other operators’ services at the Airport station.
