GWR book recalls staff’s war letters

Great Western Railway has helped National Archives curators Claire Horrie and Kathryn Phelps launch a book based on a series of letters sent from GWR staff who served in the First World War to their employer in Paddington station’s audit office.

GWR staff at Paddington collated the letters and photographs sent, and turned them into monthly newsletters.

As well as the book launch, which took place in Paddington’s First Class lounge on November 18, experts from the National Archives were present to examine First World War artefacts brought in by passengers.
