Caledonian Sleeper trials Oban as future destination

GB Railfreight 92018 at London Euston on June 24, with the 2350 to Glasgow Central/Edinburgh Waverley. RICHARD CLINNICK.

A trial Sleeper service will run to Oban next year, as Caledonian Sleeper looks to develop its existing operations.

Engineering work on the West Highland Line is affording Caledonian Sleeper the opportunity to run to the Argyll and Bute town on the weekends of February 12-14, 19-21 and 26-28, instead of to Fort William (the usual destination).

CS Managing Director Peter Strachan said: “We are altering our service in February due to planned engineering works by Network Rail. We have chosen to stop at Oban because we would like to receive feedback on this route from guests and local businesses to inform our long-term planning."

Oban, I like the thinking here. It's imperative we get Coatbridge Central back on the schedule for all you 'rail execs' out there. It shouldn't be all 'returns to Motherwell' and 'aviation fuel' ye know!
