Greater Anglia no longer selling first class tickets on regional services

First class tickets are no longer being sold on Greater Anglia’s regional trains following the introduction of Stadler Class 755s.

The new trains only have standard class, and as well as rural routes, they are also running on Norwich-Cambridge and Ipswich-Cambridge lines.

GA has also confirmed that from September 6 2020, it will only sell first class tickets on the Norwich-London Liverpool Street route as this will use Class 745/0s, which will be the only members of the operator’s new trains to have first class.

Martin Moran, GA commercial, customer service and train presentation director, said: “After listening to customer feedback and analysing growing passenger numbers and railway capacity, we’ve taken this step to make journeys better for the vast majority of our customers.”

Abolishing first class fares - well, that's one way of achieving Simpler Fares. Next step: remove the nonsense of 25 price-points on Advance Single tickets so beloved of Virgin Trains and perpetuated by its successor Avanti West Coast. Five price-points is plenty.
