The importance of the full delivery of both HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail is the central theme of Connecting Britain - a new campaign by business and political leaders in the North.
The campaign was launched on September 3 in the wake of the Government announcement of an independent review of HS2 (RAIL 886).
“A green light on HS2 and NPR in full would be a clear signal from the government that it recognises that historic underinvestment in strategic transport infrastructure outside London is a trend that must be reversed if all communities are to be levelled up and regions rebalanced,” said Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council and campaign partner of Connecting Britain.
Members believe that the North is overdue major investment into transport infrastructure, and that a lack of investment is holding back productivity.

But HS2 is now expected to cost at least £22billion more. Which I think the Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Grant Shapps (Secretary of State for Transport) who took over from Chris Grayling and the Government to pay for HS2 despite being over budget. And is scheduled for 1st Phase to be completed around 2027/28 or 2030/31.
