Network Rail has awarded an £11.6 million stations enhancements contract on the Shotts line between Holytown Junction and Midcalder Junction to Carillion Powerlines Ltd.
The work involves rebuilding Livingston South and Breich stations, and platform extensions at Carfin, Shotts and West Calder to enable the introduction of longer trains on the route.
Electrification of the line is expected to cost £160m and is due to be completed by March 2019.

How Breich gets to be rebuilt is beyond me. 3 passengers a week albeit with a lousy service. If that was in England it would be closed no doubt because the money could be spent elsewhere delivering a genuine benefit to more passengers ensuring growth in rail services. Or some such governmental speak.

Once the electrification has been completed. Not only Class 380’s will operate on the newly electrified Shotts line between Glasgow and Edinburgh. But also the Class 385’s will also be operating on that line aswell the electrified Falkirk High line.

Once the electrification is finished in March next year and the Class 385’s are in use. The Class 385’s will be operated on the Shotts Line and on the Falkirk High Line between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh Waverley.
