The case for investing in transport in the South West was handed to ministers on November 4.
The Peninsula Rail Task Force has produced a three-point plan calling for a ‘Great South West Peninsula Railway”, one that is resilient and reliable, with faster journey times and better connectivity, and with sufficient capacity and comfort’
Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander, Business Secretary Vince Cable and Baroness Kramer were presented with the proposals at the Palace of Westminster.
Alexander said: “It is impressive to see all parties talking here with one voice. My colleagues never forget to tell me there is more to the South West than Bristol and Exeter.
“I think the South West has enormous economic potential for the UK. We cannot rely on London and forget the rest of the country.”
He said the infrastructure needs of the South West were his highest priority.
