Network Rail Chairman Sir Peter Hendy responds to John Nelson and George Muir’s scepticism and criticism of NR Chief Executive Mark Carne and Network Rail in a previous edition. Hendy’s response is: “Wrong, wrong, wrong!”. He goes on to say: “Mark and I have said repeatedly that we welcome others building and rebuilding railways… Anyone who wants to rebuild Tavistock and Wisbech – be our guests. To aid the process and for transparency and clarity, Mark has asked Peter Hansford to review all the applicable standards, precisely to put to bed the allegation that Network Rail drives gold-plated costs by using too high or inappropriate standards.”
