Echoing the feelings of RAIL & RailReview’s Managing Editor Nigel Harris, PT’s own editor Robert Jack calls for a three-part plan: “1. Stop doing things that needlessly infuriate rail users. If you don’t know what they are, ask Anthony Smith at Transport Focus. 2. Sell rail as “generic concept”, an approach that Norman Baker called for when he was transport minister. How many people are aware of the ‘Britain Runs on Rail’ campaign that was launched by the industry last year? Is it time to put booster rockets on it? 3. Where’s the charismatic spokesperson for rail, tackling the industry’s detractors on the airways? Is it time to find one?”
