PT’s Whitehall insider questions the decision to appoint new ministers Jo Johnson and Nusrat Ghani. He says that Johnson was not an obvious candidate because there is no evidence that he has any interest in or knowledge of transport. “I’m told he lacks strategic vision, and often gets side-tracked by personal policy hobby-horses which don’t neatly fit into his ministerial or departmental portfolios. That could make him quite tricky to deal with.” The insider also points out that Johnson is a “fervent Remainer”, whereas Secretary of State for Transport Chris Grayling is a supporter of Brexit. On Ghani, he says that again there is no evidence of interest in transport.
