DB launches ‘world’s fastest laboratory’ test train
DB has launched its Advanced Trainlab to allow the testing of digital technologies and speed up their entry into service.
The test train comprises a four-car diesel-electric Class 605 ICE-TD that has a maximum speed of 125mph, and will be used in the next few months to trial sensor technology for object and obstacle detection, the use of alternative fuels and data exchange between trains, cars and infrastructure.
Three mobile antennae are currently being installed as part of the 5G-Connected Mobility initiative to enable data to be transferred 100-times faster than current networks.
