In a comment piece, John Nelson (former BR Managing Director overseeing London and the South East) examines whether Transport for London should be taking an interest in train services that traverse the Greater London Authority boundary.
He notes that the integration of services between different public transport providers at the stations “have developed way beyond what might have been imagined a quarter of a century ago”.
And he points out that while London’s Green Belt may insulate some communities, the likes of Thurrock, Basildon, Dartford and Gillingham may have to be considered as part of an expanding metropolitan conurbation.
