HS2 ‘will get in the way of funerals’
“HS2 bosses have become embroiled in a row with Britain’s busiest crematorium,” writes transport correspondent Graeme Paton.
The dispute centres on proposals to build a tunnel ventilation shaft 200 metres from the entrance to the Chilterns Crematorium in Buckinghamshire, which handles 4,000 funerals a year.
According to crematorium superintendent Charles Howlett, construction traffic will clog up local roads preventing mourners from reaching funeral services, while a neighbouring field will be used to dump excavated material.
