Irish Rail to install national ATP system
Irish Rail has awarded a multi-million-euro contract to DB, Egis and CPC Project Services to equip its entire 2,400km network with automatic train protection (ATP) during the next seven years.
Currently there is no form of train protection on approximately half the Irish network, and existing ATP and Continuous Automatic Warning System is almost life-expired.
The new system will be partly based on ETCS Level 1, and will provide automatic train stop while also preventing trains exceeding line speeds or temporary speed restrictions.
