Nick Richardson, technical director at transport consultancy Mott MacDonald, examines the various new designs of trains that are being planned and constructed.
He notes that learning from previous designs, “it really would make sense to agree on some common standards”, focusing on issues such as seating configurations and the amount of standing space available, luggage spaces, train toilets, and capacity.
