Next section of Asia-Europe link
President of Iran Hassan Rouhani has opened the 164km Qazvin-Rasht railway, with a 40km branch from Rasht to the Caspian port of Anzali expected to be completed by 2021. Work is also under way to build a 130km line from Rasht to Astara on the border with Azerbaijan, which will complete a north-south rail route from northern Europe to the Gulf.
