Nick Richardson, Director of the Transport Planning Society, discusses what can be done to improve the experience for passengers having to endure rail replacement services, starting with a need for more honesty. He discusses the possibilities of paying a retainer to local bus services, and would like to see transport providers “co-operate at time of necessity”, believing that while extra costs could be incurred, “goodwill would be restored and it would demonstrate confidence that the operator has control”.
