What was that about extreme conditions in the UK?! The first of five passenger trains for Saudi Arabia's North South Railway have been delivered by CAF as part of a 533m riyal contract signed in 2012. The trains are designed for 200kph operation in temperatures of up to 55 degrees centigrade. The push-pull diesel trains will operate over a 1418km route linking Riyadhwith Al-Qurayyat, near the Jordanian border. In addition to restaurant car, conventional seating, sleeping cars and a family zone, the nine and 13-car trains will also feature prayer compartments. - NH
