SNCF results hit by strikes
SNCF has calculated the cost of three months of strike action in 2018 at 770 million euros.
Total turnover for the year was 33.3 billion euros (down slightly from 33.5 billion euros in 2017), while operating profit fell from 4.7 to 4.0 billion euros.
An overall profit of 849 million euros in 2017 became a loss of 214 million euros in 2018, although the French national operator says the trend was far more positive in the second half of the year once the strike was over.
SNCF’s best performing branch in 2018 was Keolis (turnover up 9.6%), which operates city transport in France and trains abroad. The inter-city sector suffered a 24% drop in turnover. SNCF says it expects 4% growth in 2019.
