Study predicts higher-than-forecast demand for Texas HSR
Annual usage of the proposed Dallas-Houston high-speed line in Texas is expected to reach nearly six million by 2029, and 13 million by 2050, according to a study carried out by LEK Consulting. It also found that overall journeys between Houston and north Texas have risen from 14 million in 2015 to 16 million in 2017.
With 90% of trips currently made by car (air travel makes up the remainder), 80% of surveyed Texans said they would use high-speed rail in the right circumstances.
Journeys by rail are expected to be 90 minutes faster than travelling by road, and an hour quicker than flying.
