TfL: ‘Ridesharing not abstracting’
Ridesharing apps such as Uber are having only a marginal impact on demand for public transport in London, according to Transport for London’s Chief Technology Officer and Director of Customer Experience Shashi Verma.
In a report to TfL’s finance committee, he says it remains unclear whether the apps are “helping or hurting” TfL’s network, and that in future there were likely to be much larger disruptive forces to public transport posed by young people’s changing economic conditions.
These include lower starting wages, slower wage progression, and lower rates of home ownership than those enjoyed by previous generations.
