TfN calls for control of rail infrastructure
Transport for the North says it wants to take control of all Network Rail-owned infrastructure in northern England, to allow improved partnership working with train operators.
The sub-national transport body staked its claim in its submission to the Williams Rail Review, adding: “We believe that the current delivery model with a centrally controlled NR that is not locally accountable and is chronically underfunded is one of the key reasons for the existing issues within the industry.
“Changing this model, through (for example) TfN Infrastructure, will deliver better collaboration with operators and stronger alignment with local objectives, ultimately leading to better outcomes for customers.”
