"I don’t believe for a minute that paper tickets will be eradicated - the railway has no history of shedding technology,” says Transport Focus Chief Executive Anthony Smith. However, he says that HS2 will help drive the move towards smart ticketing as it has said there will be no paper tickets when it opens.
