Transforming the economy through high speed rail

Japan’s plans for a superconducting magnetic levitation Shinkansen “would revolutionise high speed rail in the 21st century”. Plans for a new high speed line between Sinagawa and Nagoya (phase 1) are described by Japanese Prime Minister Sinzo Abe as “a corridor of regional revitalisation”. It is said that the project is widely seen as an opportunity to display Japan’s technical prowess to the world – JR Central is promoting it heavily for the Northeast Maglev scheme linking New York and Washington DC.
