Mick Whelan says that women-only carriages are not the answer to the growing problem of sexual assaults on the railway. He was responding to Chris Williamson, Labour MP for Derby North, who said it would be ‘worth consulting’ on the policy because it could create a ‘safe space’ for women. Whelan said that it is “up to the privatised train operating companies to make sure every space is safe on every train”.
