New timetable to be introduced by ScotRail

Scotrail fleet waiting at station

ScotRail is to introduce a new timetable from June that is aimed at improving access for several communities. It has been introduced in part because of the reopening of the Levenmouth line, which will begin passenger services on 2nd June 2024.

Nearly 100 additional services each weekday will be introduced, including trains to the newly opened Cameron Bridge and Leven stations.

Alongside the new services on the Levenmouth rail link, services will significantly change for Inverclyde, with 30 extra services every weekday, including more frequent services between Glasgow and Wemyss Bay. There will also be better connections between rail and ferry at Gourock.

Scott Prentice, ScotRail strategic planning director, said: “This is a fantastic timetable change for our customers, delivering improvements across the country, including almost 100 additional services each day and thousands of extra seats.”

Improved services are also planned between Edinburgh and North Fife with an extra 3,000 seats in each direction. That will increase overall capacity to just over 19,000.

Scotrail conducted public consultations ahead of the timetable changes with the aim of supporting multiple communities as well as attracting business and boosting employment opportunities.

Prentice added: “Public consultations play an active part in helping to decide what our future timetables look like, and we continue to do everything we can to look at ways of making rail an even more attractive mode of transport. “

The Levenmouth rail link has been planned since 2019 with the main delivery phase beginning in March 2022. Once opened, it will connect the town of Leven to the Fife Circle line and services to Edinburgh and Kirkcaldy for the first time since the line originally shut in 1969.

“It is an exciting time for Scotland’s Railway with the historic reopening of Levenmouth, passenger numbers continuing to grow, and significant investment in recruitment across the business”, Prentice added.
