RAIL Live Day One Speaker Sessions get under way

One of the most anticipated dates in the rail industry calendar has got under way with the first day of RAIL Live at the Rail Innovation Centre in Long Marston, Warwickshire.

The largest rail exhibition in the UK has a stacked agenda and has already seen thousands of people coming through the entrances, ready to engage with suppliers and colleagues from across the rail industry.

Today’s agenda spread across two theatres – Policy and Leadership and the Engineering Theatre, has just got under way, beginning with a discussion chaired by East West Rail’s Daisy Chapman-Chamberlain and featuring Bonnie Price from Young Rail Professionals, focusing on how the industry can attract a diverse young workforce to join the industry and the steps being taken to avert a possible recruitment crisis in the future.

The aim to make rail a more sustainable industry will form the basis of the day’s second panel discussion. A full panel featuring panellists from Unipart Rail, Atkins Realis and more will discuss how to balance cost pressures as well ensuring that the rail industry becomes a more sustainable industry throughout the supply chain.

The day will also see presentations on safety in rail, with Johnny Schute, Chief Operating Officer for the Rail Safety and Standards Board explaining how the PRIMA model has been evolving over the last year and the ongoing cyber threat which is being combatted.

Of course, alongside the talks and presentations, thousands of visitors will see exhibitions, and displays of innovation and technology as well as the opportunity to see the new Class 93 Tri-mode locomotive, which has been brought to the site by Rail Operations Group and Stadler.
