Brodie-owned DMU enters traffic with ScotRail

Brodie has returned to traffic a Class 156 diesel multiple unit that had been severely damaged in floods. Two-car diesel multiple unit 156478 was sold by Angel Trains, and is the only second-generation DMU leased to a train operating company in the UK.

The engineering firm has returned it to full working order using funding from Clydesdale Bank. It will be leased to ScotRail through sister company Brodie Leasing Ltd.

It has returned to traffic with SR, which had leased it previously. The ‘156’ has undergone a full mechanical, electrical and interior overhaul, and has been modified internally to meet access requirements for disabled passengers. The work took around six months to complete.

Humza Yousaf, Minister for Transport and the Islands, said: “This is good news for passengers when it comes into service, as it will help to support the ongoing refurbishment of the other ‘156s’ in the ScotRail fleet. I’m sure that everyone will enjoy these upgrades including accessible toilets, wheelchair spaces, WiFi, new seating, flooring and ScotRail re-livery.  This project has shown the abilities of the workforce who have worked hard to bring the train ‘back to life’, and I hope that more work can be attracted to give an additional jobs boost to the local economy.”

Good to see the Class 156 (156478) back in service after the storms and floods that has caused damage to the train.
