The first Class 170s to be used by East Midlands Railway should enter service in late spring 2020, the operator has told RAIL.
Five three-car diesel multiple units (170416-170420) are moving south from ScotRail. These will be followed by the West Midlands Trains two-car (170501-170517) and three-car (170630-170635) fleets, which are to be replaced by CAF Class 196s. However, the centre-cars from the ‘170/6s’ are destined for CrossCountry and will not move to EMR.
Nine Class 156s at Greater Anglia are also due to move to EMR by the end of this year, having been replaced by Stadler Class 755s.
Additionally, ScotRail 156503 has moved south to EMR on loan until the end of year, while the latter’s Class 158s undergo refurbishment.
Two Class 153s from EMR (153310/326) have moved to WMT on hire to cover for unavailable DMUs. They will remain until the ‘196s’ have been delivered.
