LU promises 36 trains per hour for Victoria line

The capacity of the London Underground Victoria line is set to increase from April 2016 onwards, after work takes place over a three-week period in August to increase the frequency of trains from 24 trains per hour beyond Seven Sisters, to 36.

The upgrade, which will involve the replacement of a crossover at Walthamstow Central, will allow all peak-time trains to run the full length of the line to and from Brixton, meaning that stations between Seven Sisters and Walthamstow Central will receive a 40% capacity boost.

The line will be shut north of Seven Sisters for the duration of the works, with the rest of the line experiencing a slightly lower frequency of service. Rail replacement bus services will be put in place to accommodate passengers to and from Tottenham Hale, Blackhorse Road and Walthamstow Central.

LU Capital Programmes Director David Waboso said that engineers would be working around the clock to keep the closure period “as short as possible.”
