A further 28 London Underground stations have been made accessible in the past year, through the installation of manual boarding ramps on platforms.
Recently adapted stations include Hampstead Heath, New Cross Gate and Queens Road Peckham. Another 40 stations will become step-free within the next ten years, including Victoria, Bond Street and Tottenham Court Road.
The ramps enable wheelchair users to get onto a train independently. Transport for London introduced them prior to the 2012 Olympics.
Permanent platform humps and low-floor trains have also been implemented around the Tube network, to assist wheelchair users.
- More information on planned station adaptations can be found in TfL’s Equality policy and future plans document.
