Maritime Transport Ltd has introduced a new container service linking Birmingham Intermodal Freight Terminal (BIFT) at Birch Coppice (Tamworth) with DP World London Gateway.
The trains, operated by GB Railfreight, run Monday-Saturday and can carry the equivalent of 87 20ft containers in each direction, saving over four million road miles per year.
Maritime has invested heavily in BIFT, recently acquiring two new Kalmar straddle carriers, and has more than doubled container throughput at the site in the past decade.
