Roman statues found at HS2 site

The remains of Roman statues that had been smashed before being thrown to the ground have been discovered by archeologists excavating an HS2 site in Stoke Mandeville.

The artifacts, found where the old St Mary’s Norman church once stood, comprise three stone busts, a hexagonal glass jug, Saxon pottery and a coin. They were at what appears to be a much older Bronze Age burial site.
