Thameslink’s 82-year-old Siggy Cragwell has been presented with his second Lifetime Achievement Award for customer service.
Siggy won a RAIL National Rail Award in 2020 (RAIL 922) and has now been presented with an award by the Railway Benefit Fund and its president Pete Waterman.
Passengers and colleagues voted for the Elstree & Borehamwood station assistant in the annual Heart of Gold Awards, sponsored by Abellio Rail Replacement.
Siggy has worked on the railway since the day he landed in England from Barbados, nearly 60 years ago - beginning as a cleaner at Marylebone station. He gets up at 0400 for his 0600-1100 shift, and then goes straight to the gym and Tai Chi to keep him fit for playing cricket, which he still plays at international level.
“Siggy is such an inspirational person and a true public servant here at Thameslink,” said Thameslink Customer Services Director Jenny Saunders.
“The fact that this latest award was the result of a public vote speaks volumes about how highly he is regarded by his customers and his colleagues. We really are honoured to have him as part of our railway family.”
