Consultation begins on minimum service levels

A 12-week consultation on setting minimum service levels for the rail industry was launched on February 20.

The Department for Transport said it was seeking views from the public, the rail sector, wider industries and trade unions, to “develop a more detailed understanding of the impact of strike activity and how minimum service levels might be applied to reduce the disruptions caused by strikes”.

Subject to the outcome of the consultation (which closes on May 15), and the Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Bill receiving Royal Assent, minimum service levels would then be determined by the Secretary of State for Transport and delivered through regulations.
