The former Great Western Railway sheds at Old Oak Common have been demolished, in preparation for construction of a new station which will link HS2 with Crossrail and Great Western Main Line trains.
With much of the site clear of buildings, attention now focuses on clearing obstructions and contamination from 110,000 cubic metres of earth. The old heavy maintenance and wheel lathe sheds have also been cleared, along with 40,000 tonnes of concrete slab. Surplus track has been donated to heritage railways.
The 1970s diesel maintenance shed is due to be demolished in the autumn, with the Heathrow Express buildings expected to remain intact for at least another year before they are demolished.
